Creating the kitchen and the bathrooms
The kitchen and bathrooms are parts of the loft that will be used a lot. They need to be functional, efficient and luxurious, but it is still possible to make environmental choices about the materials and products used.
Natural, solid bamboo has been used for the doors of the kitchen cabinets and for the bathroom furniture. This is renewable and sustainable resource.
The electrical appliances have to meet the same criteria as the rest of the loft, energy efficient and where possible with special eco settings to reduce energy and water use.
The rainwater shower head mixes water with air which provides the same shower experience but uses half of the amount of water.
The taps on the sinks and for the bath are also designed to minimise water flow.
The glass mosaic tiles used in the shower room are made from recycled glass. All of the other tiles in the bathrooms are designated as eco-label.
A pump has been installed on the rainwater cistern so that all of the toilets are flushed using rainwater. If there is a shortage of rainwater, the system will automatically draw water from the mains system.
A heat exchange ventilation structure improves the energy efficiency of the central heating system.
The hot water is provided through solar panels and a special boiler.
